Question List Look Up From Another File?

    Hi Excel Users,

I created a file or a template that tracks my charge numbers for multiple jobs. In another file, I have a Timesheet spreadsheet.

I would like to create a "LIST" that references my Charg Number spreadsheet, without having to create a bunch of cells equal to each other from 2 different files.

Is there a way to one file refer to another file, just by having the 2 files open & havea nice "LIST" drop down menu?

    Thanks

    Hi

In book2 range A1:A5 enter the values a,b,c,d,e. Now define this range with the name mylist.

Now in book1, create a defined name (aaa) with the refers to: =book2!mylist

In book1, you can create a datavalidation with the criteria =aaa.

Didn't test to see what would happen if you save the workbooks, and then close Book2 as you mentioned that both books would be open.
