Hi,
Does anyone know of a way to convert alpha-numeric text to numeric text? E.g. I want to be able to convert 2a (which is in one column) to the value 17 (in another column)
Many thanks,

How is 2a equivalent to 17?
Thank tyou for your reponse. I'll do my best to explain my problem:
The Government has (until now) asked teachers to report pupils' attainment in nation SATs in the form of an alpha-numeric number, thus:
1c, 1b,1a, 2c, 2b, 2a, 3c, 3b, 3a, 4c, 4b, 4a, 5c, 5b, 5a
Now they want us to report that information in another form, too - as a number only, which they call an 'average points score (APS).' The alpha-numeric levels are already embedded into teachers' assessment methods, but these cannot be used for statistical analyses as easily as numbers. So, we now need both forms of reporting. We want to be able to type in the alpha-numeric and have an aps number returned in another column.
For example, the equivalents are:
1c= 7, 1b=9, 1a=11, 2c=13, 2b=15, 2a =17, 3c=19, 3b=21, 3a=23, 4=25c, 4b=27, 4a=29, 5c=31, 5b=33, 5a=35
Try:![]()
