    Red face Format/programming issue

When I type 180w180w into a cell, excel changes it to ww180180 and says EXCEL FOUND AN ERROR DO YOU WANT TO ACCEPT THE CORRECTION? I am not using = and I have tried formatting the cell as text, number or general. Any ideas why it is doing this please?

    Thanks for your help.

    Good morning thetallguy0

Has someone been tinkering with your AutoCorrect settings? Try going to Tools > AutoCorrect Options and see if 180w180w is listed as an autocorrection.

If that's not the solution, does your workbook have any macros running?

    Macros

No autocorrect settings have been changed.

I have used the forms toolbar and inserted some drop down menus so yes, there are some macros running but the problem I am describing affects cells related to the menus and also those that aren't.

Any ideas please? Thanks for your help.

    Hi thetallguy0

Hmmmm, going off what you said I'm not too sure.
Does this same thing happen on other workbooks? What if the guilty workbook is open and you open another one concurrently?
What if you open this workbook on a different computer?
I know you think it's not macros, but just humour me . Try opening your spreadsheet and opt to disable all macros and see if it still happens.

Could you upload a cutdown version of the workbook so we can see it happen?

    Eureka...

Hey presto, found the answer. You were right, somehow the form macros had disabled the formatting function. I diabled the macros, re-formatted the cells and then turned on the macros again and it worked. Great!

Thanks very much for your help.

As you you are my guru/hero I wondered if you have an idea on another little query please.

I have hyperlinks from one cell to another in the same workbook. In the previous version of excel these worked either on enter or mouseclick. In 200. they work on mouseclick only. Is this a feature of 2003 and I can't change it or do you have an idea please.

    Thanks very much.

See. Always humour the loony, 'cos you never know when he just might be right. And always try the obvious

As for your other query, I've never actually used hyperlinks much, but as far as I'm aware they are only activated on a click. I've never noticed XL2000 allows the use of the enter key as well. Let me have a try on my XL2K machine later and I'll post back.
