    Creating an auto Reference

    Hello all, first time poster here.

    I have an empty A column for referencing my entries. Each data entry is in its own row taking up around 6 columns. I want the A column to automatically tell me which reference number the new entery is.

    Which function can i use to automatically reference my entry?

    A B C D E F
    1
    2 I want the number to appear as the entry is created.

    Thanks for any advice

    If you are starting in Row 1, then possibly:

    In A1, enter formula: =IF(B1="","",ROW())

    if you are starting in row 2, just add 1 to the Row() function, e.g. =IF(B2="","",ROW()+1)

    and copy down
    Where there is a will there are many ways.
