    IF formula error

I did an IF formula with 15 "IF"s. It's pretty straightforward, just another "if" in each "false" phrase. But I got an error highlight in the 10th "if".
It worked fine when I split the formula into 2 separate "IF"s (1 with 9 "if"s and another with 6). I'm sure we can do up to 64 "if"s in a formula. Please help ......

    Hi

There is a limit of 7 layers when nesting if statements. I'm not sure how you got the 9 to work.

If you have that many options, there are probably better ways to do things. VLOOKUP / HLOOKUP come to mind.

Can you give some details of what you are trying to do with your if options so we can possibly come up with some alternatives.

I'm using excel 2002. I think Rylo is right, we can nest "if" up to the 7th one only (i miscounted!). Well, gotta live with it then. Thanks!

    Hi

You may not have to live with it - there are alternatives. If you care to provide details of your choices then we may be able to come up with viable alternatives.
