Extend Selection appears when minus key on numeric keypad

This is driving me nuts. All of a sudden, everytime I hit the minus key on my usb numeric 10 keypad, it says "Extend Selection" in the task bar. I am in Office 2007. For XP, it would just say "EXT" in the task bar. It is performing the same funtion as hitting "F8" on the regular keyboard, which is a shortcut for "extend mode"

Does anyone know how to make my usb keypad to not put me in "Extend" mode" when i press the minus key? Several people in my office have this problem, with different name brand keypads, and different versions of Excel.

have you tried it in word? does the same thing happen?(toggle 'ext' in word is f8/f9) if so its your keypad layout that needs altering!

I do not have this problem in Word. Only Excel
