    Restricting VLOOKUP return

    Hi

    I am trying to use VLOOKUP to return a date from another worksheet, which works providing the date has already been input. What I need to do is to stop the cell returning 00/01/00 if the target date hasn't been input yet.

    Please Login or Register to view this content.
    TIA

    Jon

    Try using a custom format in the cell with the formula, i.e.

    dd/mm/yy;;

    The 2 ; at the end ensure that zeroes won't display

    Thanks for your help!

    Do you know of anywhere that explains the function of ";" or "@", to help me understand what these do for the future.

    Take a look in Help under "Guidelines for custom number formats" see also "Available number formats" that may help.

    Here's a link for more information as well.
