    Calculate an even workload

My boss has set me a challenge of creating a calculation that will distribute work across a section in equal amounts.

Trouble is that we work within alpha splits (I look after cases DUN - GAU).

I dont think its possible but he thinks it is that if the amount of work on my split became to much, and someone else's became lower, the workbook could re-split the work so that we have the same amount of cases again.

Anyone advise if this is possible and what sort of formula would I look at?

Can you post an example or what your data looks like?

Would it be correct to assume that each person has to manage a contiguous set of cases?

Best I can do is give an idea of the layout

Column A = Name of customer
    Columns B - I = Customer related data
Column J = Name of staff member in charge of case

Roughly we work on about 250 customers each for a full time member of staff. So if for example my workload went to 300 and another persons were to drop, the sheet could re-calculate the workload alpha split.

The workbooks are kept in alpha order and I do have a count on who has how many customers and the status of the customer.

Do all customers impose the same workload?

Does a given staff member handle a contiguous group of customers? For example, at a Will-Call desk (or at college registration), you see signs like this

    (A-G) (H-R) (S-Z), and not like this

    (A-D, Q), (E-R, X), (S-W, Y-Z)

Would the changing assignments be shown in successive columns as they change, or keep changing in the same column?

It would be much simpler if you could dummy up some data, rather than playing 20 Questions ...

I've attached a rough guide on the layout. The columns in between are just additional customer data.

So from the list, say the split for Dave reduced and the split for Hayley increased, how can I make the sheet recalculate so that everyone has a new alpha split with roughly the same amount of work.
