    ok i must be having a brainstorm but i cant see what im doing wrong here.
    keef getting #ref
    when all this is supposed to be doing is the same as =$C$1&$D$1

    You would have to use this format:

    =INDIRECT($A$1)&INDIRECT($A$2)

    THe format that you originally had forces Excel to lookup cell C1D1, which obviosuly doesnt exist.
