    Drop Down Lists

    Hi there,

I've been trying to create a drop down list on excel, of which i've successfully completed. My problem is that there seems to be a limited as to the amount of text you can type in when creating a 'List' in the drop down menu.

I was wondering if there is a way in which you can have unlimited characters, or if you can type the list in a different cell on a different sheet and link the two together?

I'm not sure how clear this is, so hopefully in describing the text i'm going to be entering will help: I've got a list of UK Towns i'll need to be choosing from and as you can probably guess; theres loads.

Any help that anyone can provide will be most appreciated. I've recently started a new job and i'm trying to make a good impression by redesigning a system we use. Please help make a young mans job start with a high Thank you very much

    Hi,

The easy way to do this is touse a named range.

Create your list anywhere in your book and then name it e.g. town_list

in the data validation choose List > =town_list

then these names will appear to select from.
