Adding cells that reference other cells

I have a xls where in column A i have names of people and sometimes their name comes up multiple times, in reference to grants that they received in column B.

I want to write a formula/function that will give me a sum of the grants that each person received. so if bob got 500, 300, 400, 100, i want to have the total 1300, in yet another column.

some people have a different amount of grants than others, so when i drag my formula, it doesn't work.

any help please?
