Stuck - multiple argument formula COUNT

I require some help

I need a forumla that will look down "column A" and identify only the January dates then count the instances of "A1" in column A-F associated with January and give a instances figure.


Example Table

4_______05.01.2007______B3____C1____E4____E6___F1

6_______10.02.2007______D1____E4_________________

I have tried to use a combination of VLOOKUP with COUNTIF using wildcards "*" & "?" to identify January but I usually end up with a =VALUE?

Can this be done? If it can I can't so any help would be more than appreciated.

Do you have true dates in column A? If so try

=SUMPRODUCT((TEXT(A2:A100,"mmm yy")="jan 07")*(B2:F100="A1"))

Both solutions work great.
