    Row Insertion Problem

    Hello,

    Does anyone find it a hassle to have to change the sum formula in the total row each time another row is inserted directly above the total row? Is my only option to always have an extra unused row directly above the total row? I'm hoping it's possible to make Excel automatically add the row addition to the summed range.

    Hi,

    no, but if I were inserting rows I would use something like

    =SUM(INDIRECT("D$2:D"&ROW()-1))

    More choices

    Thanks,

    I also found a webpage that explains three other options for dealing with this issue. For those who are interested, it is www.exceluser.com/explore/errors_sums.htm

    Hi,

    yes, but they are fraught with possible problems, the same as is using a Range and =Sum(Range), as this does not guarantee that the row will be included in the Range.

    The Row()-1 is always the row above, no matter what happens to rows, but thanks for the site, and for the feedback.
