    formula issue

    Hi

Right, I have no idea if what I want to create is possible but here goes...

I have a food diary template which I've adapted slightly to list food consumed, calories, saturated fat, 'good' fat, protein, carbs and fibre. It already had a clever formula so that at the bottom the totals are calculated and for sat fat and cals I could enter a target and at the bottom it tells me how over/under I am.

(By the way I'm not neurotic...I have just been diagnosed with a condition for which I need to follow a strict low cal, low sat fat, high good fat diet).

I was wondering if I could create a list of my regular foods (in the portions I plan to stick to) and their nutrional values (cals, sat fat etc.) and enter formulaes in the food log worksheet so that when I enter the name of a food in the first column, it automatically enters the nutritional values in all the others? I'll be on this diet for life, and don't really want to have to enter all this obsessively forever, and if it could be entered and totalled automatically that would be fab!!!!!!

Thanks in advance for any genious who tells me how I could do this!!!!!

The Vlookup is probably the way to go, along with data validation (list), so you can pick the food from a list to ensure conistency of typing. Why don't you post the spreadsheet (or a zipped version of it) to this post and someone may do it for you as it is Christmas and a bit quieter.

    Regards
