Question help with selecting a function

I have a set of colums with the following titles

Address # Address Date By whom

on the first sheet they are sorted by address then by address#

on the seconed sheet they are sorted by date oldest to newest

I've linked the date from sheet 1 to sheet 2 so as when the date in sheet 2 is changed it will automaticly change the one in sheet 1 by using the = sign

No problem yet, but when I edit the dates on sheet 2 and then sort to bring the oldest date to the top then when I change another date it does not go to the cell that it was orginaly set to because of the movement of the data by sorting. any suggestions as to how to solve this problem?

One of us is confused, and it's usually me.

You have data on Sheet2 that you replicate on Sheet1 by =
ie, in A1 on Sheet1 you have (or had)
    =Sheet2!A1

Then you sorted something, but, did you select the Date column to sort? or did you select All Data and sort using the Date column as a key?

For the row in error what is the formula in Sheet1 for the cells A B and C ?

Brian my collums are as follows
Address #, Address Name, Date, By Whom

Both sheets have the same data
on sheet 1 they are sorted by Address name then by Address #
on sheet 2 They are sorted by Date

As I said before I know how to link the dates so as I change them on sheet 2 the will automaticly change on sheet 1.

The problem occurs when I resort page 2 to keep the oldest dates at the top of the page then if I edit more dates it dose not place them in the right location on sheet 1

    Hi,

What is 'the right location' ?

do you mean that Sheet1 is no longer sorted in the original Sheet1 sequence?
(well, of course not, unless you specified a re-sort after you changed the data over which it was sorted)

or do you mean that the amendment is applying to an incorrect row of Sheet1 ?
(if so, what formula are you using for =Sheet2!A1)

Any further clues? formula? what actually happens? ie, where does the data appear, where do you think it should have appeared, and the formula for both locations? etc
