    frustrated with Excel, please help

I set the cell formatting to display some lap times as mm:ss but when I input the lap times as mm:ss into the cell (lets say 15:24 as in 15 minutes 24 seconds) excel automatically converts the time value to 3:24:00 PM and it will display 24:00 in the cell. Is there a way around this so I can enter in 15:24 (mm:ss) into the cell and it will display it as 15:24 instead of 24:00?

Select all the cells you want to format, format cells/number/custom format:
    Type "mm:ss". That should work.

If it doesn't, you can override the whole time format aspect and just display the 4 numbers with the semicolon in the middle. In custom format: Type #0":"00.

    Enter the figures as :15:24
