mileage log in mi instead of $.

okay I have two problems. I have milage daily log spreadsheet and instead of dollars ($) sysmbol I want the cell to read (mi) for mileage.
My second problem is when my spreadsheet is blank i get #value! I want the cell to read Total. I have attached my mileage log spreadsheet to show what i mean. Any help or improvements would be great. For some reason you cant attach xls attachments so i changed it to .doc. change to .xls before opening. thanks.

select the range to want to format and right click with the mouse
    select format cells
select the number tab and go to custom
in the custom box type in ###.##" MIL" or whatever text you want

Place this formula in cell C24

    =IF(C23=0,"Total",C23+D22)
