updating a spreadsheet in 1 field w/ out changing values in anoth

I am using a spreadsheet that was developed by a prior worker and I'm having
trouble sorting the product using one of the fields without it changing the
values in the other fields. I.E column 3 has been assigned a ranking number
based on its importance to our workforce. Column 6 has a seperate ranking
field with a priority status that ranks from 1-5. When I try to sort the
products by their priority status, their ranking number in column 3 realign
in sequential order. Help me to sort by column 6 with keeping column 3's
    ranking assigned to their product.

    Thank you,
    TSgt M. Gibson

What is driving the values in Columns 3 and 6? Formulas? VBA code?
If you don't know then, if you wish, send me a copy of your file via email.
If you feel your data is proprietary, then make a copy of your file first.
In the copy, change the data to nonsense and send that copy to me. I need
just the layout and the code (VBA code) and the formulas. My email address
is ottokmnop@comcast.net. Remove the "nop" from this address. HTH Otto
