Is there a way to count cells in a range based on fill color?

I have a workbook that uses the fill color as a dimensionof the data (
currecy of training). I want to automate statistics without counting cells
and entering the number. I would like to do some thing like countif the fill
is red. IS there a way to set the fill value to a variable to count with?
