How do I convert 00:03:54 to get 234 seconds?

how do I convert 3 minutes and 54 seconds (00:03:54) to get the answer 234
seconds? I have tried all the formulas for time conversions, but none will
let me take the full minutes and seconds and convert it to all seconds. Any
ideas?
