    Calculate Completion Date using Duration, % Complete, Today's Date

    I want to calculate a predicted completion date from TODAY using Task Duration and % Complete.

    Example:

    Today = 30th December
    Task Duration = 4 weeks
    % Complete = 50%

    Predicted Completion Date = ~13th January

    What formula can I use for this??

    Many Thanks

    Welcome to the forum.

    There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook (yellow banner: HOW TO ATTACH YOUR SAMPLE WORKBOOK). Screenshots are of little practical use as we cannot manipulate them.

    A good sample workbook has just 10-20 rows of representative data that has been desensitised. The sample layout accurately matches that of your real data. It also has expected results mocked up, worked examples where required, relevant cells highlighted and a few explanatory notes.

    What is the start date of the project? What exaclty does 50% complete mean? It's not at all cleare what you want.

    Predicted Completion Date = Today's Date + Task Duration * (1 - % Completion)

    Task Duration to be expressed in days, 4 weeks * 7 = 28 days

    Sure, but where does 13 January come into it?

    Re: Calculate Completion Date using Duration, % Complete, Today's Date

    Apologies, I did not include a copy of the workbook as it includes company proprietary information, so please allow me to explain and clarify for you:

    Multiple but separate tasks per row on 1 sheet.
    Start date is irrelevant, as it is the % complete that is the variable driving factor.
    If a task is 4 weeks long \ 28 days, and it is 50% complete, then it still has 14 days left to complete.
    From TODAYS date (30th December), this would calculate the completion date as being 13th January
    For tomorrow, if the task remains only 50% complete, then the completion date would be 14th January
    However, if by tomorrow the % complete has been updated \ changed to say 55% complete, then the completion date would be ~10th January

    I hope this further explanation helps!

    Thank you - That provides the calculation and answer that I am wanting - Is it possible to use the Excel TODAY() function in this so that I don't have to manually adjust the date?

    Did you read my instructions? Here they are again:

    It looks like Joseph has a solution for you, however.

    If you use TODAY() function, than you have to update to the latest % Completion.

    Re: Calculate Completion Date using Duration, % Complete, Today's Date

    Try:

    =TODAY()+C3*(1-D4)

    Where C3 is 28 and D4 is 50%.
