    Help, why am I getting "FALSE" output

    Hi

    This might be an silly mistake Im making, but I can't figure out what the problem is? May be one of you will quickly see the issue.

    Here is the formula Im using:

    =IF(Z1405<=9,"Normal",IF(10<=Z1405<=13,"Mild",IF(14<=Z1405<=20,"Moderate",IF(21<=Z1405<=27,"Severe",IF(Z1405>=28,"Extremely Severe")))))

    Attached is the data its using. When the total is 10 I should get "Mild" but why am I getting FALSE? More importantly, how do I fix it?

    Thanks for any help!

    Re: Help, why am I getting "FALSE" output

    To answer your question, you are getting FALSE because there is no VALUE_IF_FALSE in the final argument:

    =IF(Z1405<=9,"Normal",IF(10<=Z1405<=13,"Mild",IF(14<=Z1405<=20,"Moderate",IF(21<=Z1405<=27,"Severe",IF(Z1405>=28,"Extremely Severe","Missing VALUE_IF_FALSE")))))

    Alternatively, =LOOKUP(Z1405,{0,10,14,21,28},{"Normal","Mild","Moderate","Severe","Extremely Severe"})

    Re: Help, why am I getting "FALSE" output

    You can't do this: IF(10<=Z1405<=13,"Mild"

    See sudbhavani's solution in post #2. But you also need a value_if_false in the last IF as Ali suggested in post #4.
