Count of Unique Items from a List

Hello.

Been stuck on this for a while. In the attached, I'm trying to find a function that will return the amount of unique letters from List 1 that are found in List 2. The return value should be 3 since only a, b, and c are present in List 2. I've tried multiple combinations of COUNTIFS functions to no avail. Happy to clarify if this seems confusing. Would greatly appreciate any help.
