    Regression analysis

    Hi All,

For my thesis report, I collected the quantitative data through a survey form. I need to do quantitative data analysis, mainly regression analysis. I don't have a technical background, my program is communication management, so, I am struggling with this and your response will be a great help.

In the attached Excel sheet, I added three scenarios, and if I can get an idea of how to work on that, then I will be able to do for rest of my 25+ questions and other responses. I activated the Excel toolpak and clicked on regression. I put X, Y variables, but it always shows an error like "non-numeric*****".

The Excel sheet has the primary data I collected, I also tried to replace the countries' names (Bangladesh = 1, USA = 2, Estonia =3, Poland =4) and also tried adding an extra column manually, "Immigrant", when both the column Born and Workplace are same, the in the Immigrant column was No=0, and when countries are different then "Immigrant" column was Yes=1. but couldn't get any solution.

Could please help me, to do regression analysis in these three scenarios??

    Re: Regression analysis

What you want is not regression analysis. Regression analysis compares numerical data. How does Y vary when X changes.

You do not have numerical data, you have values associated with attribute data.

The best you can do is data visualization. That is, display the data on charts. Column charts are best way to display this data.

The other thing you should do is put your data into Excel Tables. If you wish to continue using Excel, this is a good idea. There are too many advantages of Excel tables NOT to avoid using them.

This is what I did on the data sheet. We can link up the question numbers with the verbiage for the question when we display the data.

I ran a pivot table on question 1 and made a display to show ONE way of displaying the data.

This is as far as I will take it until you tell me if this is what you really want.

If this is what you want, then we can produce one chart per question. Since all the data will be run from the same table we can use a thing called a slicer to control ALL of the charts.

Alternatively, I could give you a "dashboard" which means you have one chart and it will change as you select which question you want to look at.
    Attached Files Attached Files
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.
