    Probability outcome

I am working in Microsoft 365. I want to use historical data to provide the probability of an outcome based on several variables. I want to know if X will be positive or negative based on day of week, month and hour. In the formula attached I would like to find the probability that Hour 1 will be positive based on all variables. I also want the capability to see what the probability that hour 1 is positive on just Mondays? I hope my explanation was clear. Thank you.

There are a lot of #REF! errors lower down your sheet, so data is missing.

You need to mock up what you want - some examples calculated manually in the format you want to see them - and add these to the sample workbook.

    Administrative Note:

Is your forum profile showing the version of Excel that you need this to work for?

Members will tailor the solutions they offer to the version of Office (Excel, NOT Windows) that you have. Please check that your forum profile is up-to-date in this respect. If you aren't sure, in Excel go to File | Account and report what it says below the MS logo at the top of that page. If your version is for Mac, please also state this.

The three most recent versions of Excel are Excel 2019, Excel 2021 and MS365 - if you are using MS365, please give this name along with the release number in your profile (e.g. MS365 Version 2211). This is in the About Excel section further down the Account page.

    Thanks.

    Re: Probability outcome

I'm not sure how you intend to calculate probability here. If you help us understand how you want to calculate these probabilities, we should be able to help program that into the spreadsheet.

My first guess for solutions 1 and 2 would be some kind of "Count the number of records that meet criteria and are greater than 0" divided by "count the number of records that meet criteria". In a spreadsheet, this would involve counting functions like COUNTIFS() and COUNT() [see help files if you are unfamiliar with these functions]. Is that how you intend to calculate probabilities, or do you have a different scheme in mind?

As for solution 3, you also have not explained how you want to calculate "how positive it is" and "how negative it is." My first guess would be some kind of average (in the same vein as solutions 1 and 2, probably an AVERAGEIFS() function), but I cannot be sure that's what you want.

We are good at programming known algorithms into a spreadsheet, but we are not always good at developing algorithms from scratch. If you will help us understand how you intend to calculate these probabilities and measures, we should be able to help you program those calculations into the spreadsheet.
