    Not vlookup, formula in excel

    Hi All,
I need help creating a formula in excel. I have attached my sample worksheet. I have the data in column A-C. I need to in-put formula that will sum up transactions by looking up the project number and display them in each month.
I don't want to do vlookup. I'm hoping to do it using formula. Number with 0 in the front is must to keep it that way.
Also, if there #N/A for no value found then have that column left blank.

VLOOKUP is a function used in a formula. Why don't you want to is VLOOKUP? Do you mean VBA?

You can use this formula in cell I2:

    =SUMIF($A:$A,$H2,B:B)

Copy across into J2, then copy both formulae down.

The formula does not generate #N/A if the value is not found, so you can't trap it to show a blank. You could, instead, use this formula in I2:

    =IF(COUNTIF($A:$A,$H2),SUMIF($A:$A,$H2,B:B),"")

and copy that across and down. This will show a blank if the item in column H is missing completely.

    Hope this helps.

    you could use
    =SUMPRODUCT(($A$2:$A$55=$H2)*($B$1:$C$1=I$1)*(Sheet1!$B$2:$C$55))

if you change the headers to either dates and format as you want to look
    or both the same

I have changed to dates and formatted to look as you have

Also, if there #N/A for no value found then have that column left blank.
so the sumif wont return a N/A - it will return a zero - did you want that or blank

Number with 0 in the front is must to keep it that way.
they are text entered values, so they just need to be entered with a ' in front to retain leading zeros

anyway - a few answers now
