Populate Calendar with Multiple Events Spanning Multiple Days

Supreme bragging rights to the savviest Excel Guru!

I found many dynamic calendar templates that pull events into their respective month dates. Challenge: can a dynamic calendar be automatically populated with multiple events, spanning multiple dates and color coded by business unit? I don't want the same event title repeated on June 10, 11, 12, 13. I'd like to have the event title span the dates in the month and color coded--if possible. Attachment 817733

You will need VBA to do this: to either "merge and center" cells (advice on merging is DO NOT !!!) or "merge across selection".

If you are to colour code the event, then I fail see any merit (other than "artistic") in merging cells. For colour coding, you will need to add the event "type" e.g. Retail,Healthcare ...... to your "Calendar Iitems" list an event can be related to its colour code.
If that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED.

Thanks for the reply John! This particular merging request is for the visual benefit of our reps. It is much easier to digest the month's events, without duplicating it across all of the dates; while the color code provides instant recognition of LOB. I was afraid this might necessitate VBA (my company prohibits files with macros or VBA.) Can it not be done with formulas? And why is merging not advised, since I have to prepare it that way manually?

You cannot merge cells with a formula - hence VBA.

Merged cells often cause problems when referenced by formula and hence should generally be avoided.

I understand the colour coding and would have thought that was suffucient with the event title in the first "date" cell for the event [if you do not want it all the cells].

Thank you very much John! Any chance there is VBA code that accomplishes the color coded, merged cells? I'm looking for an aesthetic calendar that is populated from my events spreadsheet. Even though the merging is not recommended, it will serve the reps better.
Thanks again for your follow up!

You need to transfer your post to the "Excel Prgramming/VBA/Macros" forum together with a sample workbook, [Not sure of the process for doing this]

I tried to contact the moderators, but the screen indicated that I don't have the credentials to access that page. I've also submitted the "contact us" form, but have not received any answer. I guess I start a new thread. Thanks!
