Formula to award points based on number if words

Hi! I’m learning Excel for work and I need assistance with coming up with a formula

If, for example, I can give 8 points for every 100 words, is there a way to compute this/is there a formula I can use so that it gives me the total of points? Like if for example, someone submits 1465 words, without having to manually compute how many 100s are in there to multiply by 8, is there a formula I can use to get the answer just by putting in the number of words?

Hopefully this makes sense and thank you in advance for the help!

You probably want =8*FLOOR(A1,100), if you are putting the number of words in cell A1. This assumes that you are always rounding down, i.e. 1465 words scores 14 lots of 8 points.

If you want to round up then use CEILING instead, or if you just want to round to the nearest hundred the use MROUND. The syntax for both of these is the same as for FLOOR.

Hello! Thank you for your reply!

That formula is very helpful but unfortunately is not what I need. Because it multiplies 100 by 8. I’m not sure if I explained it properly (sorry, I’m not sure how to word my troubles) but it’s more of 100 = 8 points

So 1500 words would be 120 points and the like

Is there a way to do that? 😩

Sorry, me making a stupid mistake. It should be =FLOOR(A1/100,1)
