    Find duplicates

    Hello,
My data has several rows that mean the same however have been written differently. See examples below:
    ABC : PQR : 10 : EFG : DEF
    India : USA : 28 : XYZ : EST
    ABC : PQR : 1 x 10 : EFG : DEF
    India : USA : 2x14 : XYZ : EST
    India : USA : 7x4 : XYZ : EST
    India : USA : 1x28 : XYZ : EST

As is evident, the 1st sentence is similar to the 3rd. And the 2nd is same as the 4th, 5th and 6th sentence in their meaning. How do i identify these as duplicates in excel with there being thousands of rows? Sample data attached with mock results and the same query

    Welcome to the forum.

There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook.

A good sample workbook has just 10-20 rows of representative data that has been desensitised. It also has expected results mocked up, relevant cells highlighted and a few explanatory notes.

    Re: Find duplicates

Here's a possible approach. But... there are probably better ways.

i created a few (!!) helper columns. If it's any good to you, I can explain. I don't want to waste my time explaining something complex, if you don't want to use it!! All Match 1s are identical, Match 2's, etc.

There's no VBA involved, just an old Excel 4.0 macro... so you do need to have macros enabled on opening.
