need help - how to match partial text to get the answer back?

    Hi

    I have two worksheets
    1) Worksheet A - need to match the title to worksheet b to get it's answer for CL column

    sample.png

I try these method and it didn't give the right answers for most
    1) VLOOKUP($E2&"*",worksheetb$A$2:$C$13,2,TRUE) and the answer is not right - it's not pick the right CL to the title.

can anyone help. I am trying to find partial match of worksheet A job title eg if it's Senior Associate Director (XXX) to match into Worksheet B Title Senior Associate Director and pick up the CL column which s CL2 to Worksheet A..

Please advise the formula that can partial match the title and pick back the answer.

Do I need to change the table for worksheet B? I am lost and not sure of the formula to use. Thank you

    Regards

Hi and welcome to the forum

Pictures are of little value. Honestly, no one wants to re-type your data to try and solve your issue. Additionally, we would only be guessing at how your data was structured, ie. formulas, formatting, etc. Additionally, due to how some browsers behave, many of our members cannot see uploaded pictures/images. Please do not take this route.

Please attach a sample file that represents what you have. The structure of your attachment should be the same structure as your actual data. Any proprietary information should be changed.

Include in the attachment any code you're currently using (whether it works or not) and an "After" of what you wish the output to be.

To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.

Yes BUT only with a small sample (1-20 row of data). See yellow banner at top page with instructions on how to attach a workbook.
If that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED.

You won't be able to use VLOOKUP, as your lookup range is in column C and you want to return data from column B. I think you would be better trying to use COUNTIF to find the match, but as others have said, you need to attach a sample workbook.
