    Need Help Creating 401k Match Formula

    Hi Everyone,

    I need help creating the following formula for an Employer 401k Match

    The employer will contribute an amount equal to the sum of 100% of the employees elective deferral that do not exceed 3% of the employees compensation, plus 50% of the amount of the employees elective deferral that exceed 3% of the employees compensation but do not exceed 5% of the employees compensation.

    The formula is not too hard but we need to see the data you are starting with. Do you have an Excel sheet set up with the employee's salary and 401(k) contribution? Do you need annualized, or per pay period?

    Here is the calculation using annual salary and annual employee contribution.

    How can I add eligibility to the formula? Employees only get a match after 1 year of service.
