Exclamation Two-way matrix lookup to find word 'ERROR' & read value from that row/column

    Hi Guys

Hope I explain this well enough for you to be able to support :-)

I am trying to enter a formula in column K (xOOT) where excel looks along row 5 ($L$5-$XX$5), and every time it gets to the word 'ERROR' it looks down the column to see if there is a value in the cell for that corresponding row, if yes it counts it as 1, if not it just assumes it to be 0.

For example, I have tried to demonstrate in my attachment what the values should be for this snippet of the spreadsheet.

I have had some success with MAXIF functions but cannot seem to get the COUNTIF function to work.

Hoping you can provide some assistance!

    Administrative Note:

    Welcome to the forum.

We would very much like to help you with your query, however the thread title does not really convey what your request is about. Tell us what you are trying to do, not how you think it should be done.

Please take a moment to amend your thread title. Make sure that the title properly explains your request. Your title should be explicit and not be generic (this includes function names used without an indication of what you are trying to achieve).

Please see Forum Rule #1 about proper thread titles and adjust accordingly. To edit the thread title, open the original post to edit and then click on Go Advanced (bottom right) to access the area where you can edit your title.

(Note: this change is not optional. As you are new, I have done it for you today.)

An image is of little practical use. There are instructions at the top of the page explaining how to attach your sample workbook.

Your image looks different to Excel 2010 - could you confirm the version you are using?
