    Highlighting cells between columns in a row

    Hi there,

    New to the forum - hoping you can help me do something in excel, or tell me whether it is possible!

    I have a list of rows of events, the next column is start date and the next column is end date. After that I want to make this data visual, so each column is a chronological list of dates 1900 | 1901 | 1902 ...etc.

    I started manual highlighting these date cells, row by row, for each event, but it is pretty laborious. A lot of scrolling left and right.

    Is there a way to automatically highlight those cells according to the start and end date?

    Thanks forum!

    It is possible. Post a sample file as per the yellow banner above and we can assist further.

    Thanks for such a quick reply! I've knocked up a similar smaller example and hopefully that is attached!

    Conditional formatting rule for E2:

    =AND(E$1>=$B2,E$1<=$C2)

    Applies to range: =$E$2:$HR$11

    Hi ALiGW,

    Thanks for that! I might need a bit more help in using it, I'm not great at Excel. I tried pasting your formula in E2 and dragging it to apply across rows and columns, it fills each cell with FALSE. Not sure how to use it correctly!

    No - it's not a cell formula.

    Look at the workbook I provided. With cell E2 selected, click on Conditional Formatting on the Home Ribbon and Manage Rules - inspect the rule and the Applies to box.
