the date format changes when i edit the date in the souce data. i want to filter on date criteria greater than certain date. it is not working. kindly see the attached sheet.

The format changes because Excel interprets (correctly) the input as a date and formats it as a proper Excel date.
All your other dates are effectively TEXT and should be converted to Excel dates.
Use Text to Columns to convert columns D and E
