    Xlookup vs vlookup

I just started using Office 365 with Excel 2016. I have been using the XLOOKUP Formula in places where I used to use VLOOKUP. Today in a lot of cases my XLOOKUP is returning #value by if I put in a standard VLOOKUP it works. Any ideas why? I am assuming it's just me not knowing a parameter or something. All advice gladly taken. Thanks for reading.

    Hi there.

A picture is worth 1,000 words. An Excel sheet is worth 1,000 non-editable pictures.

Please read the yellow banner about sample worksheets, at the top of the screen. Act on its guidelines and post a SMALL sample sheet.

FWiW... I still use VLOOKUP!!! But, let's take a look at what you have.

I thought I posed the solution. sorry.

If the comparison lookup and and return arrays are not the same size the #Value error will appear. At least that's how it is shaking out for me. When I posted the question I had the comparison array as the colunm but the result range was addressed from first cell to last cell. I changed it to a column and it worked.
