Hiya! I have been trying to maintain my formulae above my columns while converting my clusters of numbers to a table. As far as I have worked out, this is not possible.
Anyone care to contradict me?

Do you mean that you are converting data to an Excel Table and Excel is wiping out your formulas and replacing them with table headers?
You can create the table by selecting the data starting with the row below your formulas. The formulas will be untouched.

Yes, that's what I thought as well. However, what happens when I start the table under my headers, Excel shifts the whole thing one row down and imposes headers - which is also not what I want. Also, Excel doesn't necessarily wipe out my headers. Rather, it converts to static text, defeating the whole purpose of a dynamic text, example:Formula:

It is not possible to have formulae as column headers in Excel tables.

Do what you just described. Then afterwards, click anywhere in the table, and go to the Design menu in the ribbon. In the Table Style Options panel, uncheck "headers". The table headers will disappear. Then select all of the cells in your table and drag up one row to fill the space.
