    Read Formula

    Hello,
I need some help out here..

    This is G2
QUT - MFG Deutsche Saatgut GmbH - 23.08.2019||9931244||Project

I only need to extract the date from it. I use this formula:
    =IFERROR(MID(G2;SEARCH("|";SUBSTITUTE(G2;")";"|"))-10;10);"")

This works good. But I need to know how to read it. What is this formula doing and what is SUBTITUTE doing?

    If anyone can help,
    Thanks a lot
