Using Trendline Equation to create a data table

When I create a scatter plot from a data table, I quite often would like to see the data from the trend line equation along side my raw data. The problem I have is that I can't find a way to copy the trend line equation back into a cell. I always have to just display the equation on the chart and then manually type the equation into a cell. I can't seem to figure out how to copy the equation into a cell. Any thoughts?

It depends on type of trend line. If linear trend line, you could use LINEST().

See link for detail on LINEST function.

And you can see thread below for some sample (post #6 attachment).

Re: Using Trendline Equation to create a data table

Thank you for the LINEST function information, but my question is more general. Quite often, I have a polynomial or exponential trend line. The equation is right there on the chart, but it usually has complicated coefficients. I am trying to avoid typing those long coefficients. Thwere must be a way to just cut and paste the formula into a cell, but I can't figure it out.

Re: Using Trendline Equation to create a data table

Linest can be used for polynomial, exponential, logarithmic : https://www.engineerexcel.com/nonlin...ting-in-excel/.

It has been my experience that the coefficients provided by the displayed trend line formulas do not always have the precision needed to fit the curve adequately. The computed values from Linest work out better.
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.

Re: Using Trendline Equation to create a data table

You can still use linest for non-linear curb fitting.

And some sample usage in link Post#2 attachment.

If you just need to copy the equation on the chart. Click on the text box, select entire content and copy. Paste into cell.
It will be pasted in as text.
