Result of drop down list looks at another list and returns an answer

After my first visit with brilliant results from you all I have another challenge for you:
I have a drop down list, (A2:A11), and I want whatever is chosen in box, (A14)to check another list, (C17:C26) and then display "Contact Help" in box A14 and chance the cell colour. I've played around with data validation and the "IF" command but cant get it to work on the second list.
Will it work or will it the formula have to go into a different cell?

I'm not sure what you are trying to do here. You have a data validation drop-down in cell A14 which is driven by the values in the range A2:A11. You have an identical list in C17:C26, and you are asking to flag up whenever the choice in A14 is found within this second list. It is always bound to be the case, as the second list is the same as the list which drives the data validation !!

Anyway, you wouldn't be able to change the chosen value in A14, so you would need your error message to appear in another cell (e.g. A13).

Thanks Pete, my idea is that the second list is a check list which will change each month. Some names will be removed and therefore will be ok. Your answer is what I thought, to format another cell to look at the answer in A14, check it against the list C17:C26 then display the answer.
