    AutoCalculate Remaining Percentage

    Screen Shot 2018-12-19 at 12.55.39 PM.png

I attached a screen shot to hopefully clarify this. I have 75 items in my garden and I want to enter the top 10 items that take up the most space. I want the remaining 65 items to auto calculate and auto adjust the "Feet Planted" column and the % amount in the "Garden Space" column. And everything in the "Garden Space" column should total 100%.

I am currently running the formula using 3326 as my total area.

    Thanks!!

    Welcome to the Forum valentines!

What is the algorithm for Feet Planted? How do I know if Beets is supposed to be 5 feet or 30 feet? You need to add some kind of information that gives the proportions for the remaining 65 items.

We might be able to solve this without your file but since we support attachments it will help to attach your file, instead of just an image. The paper clip icon does not work for attachments. To attach a file, under the text box where you type your reply click the Go Advanced button. On the next screen scroll down and click on Manage Attachments, which will show a pop-up window to Select and Upload a file. Then close the window.

    valentines,

I assume you are wanting the remaining crops to take up equal space in the garden? If that is the case, see the workbook I have attached. It's a simple solution, but is also dynamic. You can add as many rows as you want, and the formulas will still work. Additionally, you can change the "Top 10" to top 20, or 5, or whatever. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Brant-

Thats very helpful. The tricky thing is that I want the totals to AutoAdjust. For instance if I change the "Feet Planted" of Carrots from 150 to 100. The Sum changes to 3176. I want the Sum to remain 3226 and the 50 feet that I removed from the carrots I want Excel to add that 50 feet equally amongst the remaining items.

    Re: AutoCalculate Remaining Percentage

    valentines,

I think you may have misunderstood how the sheet works. If you want to change the "Feet Planted" on any item, do it in column B. Everything in column C is set to automatically adjust and keep your total at 3,226. I am guessing you made the change in column C instead of column B and that is why your total is changing.

    Thanks!

    Brant,

Wow-I sure did. Thats perfect. Thanks a bunch. Last silly question-how do I add rows? I have about 50 more items that I was just going to copy/paste from another sheet.

    Cheers!

    Re: AutoCalculate Remaining Percentage

You'll need to add rows in the middle of the data and then paste the formulas to those rows. The easiest way to add rows is using keyboard shortcuts.
    [Shift]+[Space] will highlight the row
    [Ctrl]+[+] will add a row

Let me know if you run into any issues adding the rows and copying the formulas to those rows.

    Re: AutoCalculate Remaining Percentage

It seems like I'm having issues inserting the formula because this is what happens when I insert rows...

    Sorry for all the bother

    Re: AutoCalculate Remaining Percentage

No trouble at all. You did fine inserting the rows, but the formulas were not copied down. That's why the totals didn't match up. I've copied the formulas down for you and reattached the sheet. Hope this helps.
