    IF function initiating another formula if true

    Can you trigger a separate formula within an IF formula? I'd like to initiate =TODAY() in a column once data has been entered into another column. I've attached my workbook and the formula I tried, but failed. I want to be able to put a date into column E, and have that date trigger =TODAY() in column F.
