Intermediate excel formulas [Request for general recommendations, not specific situation]

    Hi,

I'd say I'm an intermediate excel user, definitely not expert and definitely not beginner. I use macros and do a bit on VB.net

I now work for an engineering company and do quite a bit on excel. I was wondering do you have any go to formulas that the average person doesn't know about that help out alot?

I realise this is an open ended question but I am curious to what the experts have to say

    Thanks for any replies

    Re: Intermediate excel formulas

The first thing that comes to my mind are array formulas. They are very powerful but IMHO poorly documented by Microsoft, so you have to resort to intuition and folklore to understand how they work. I have not seen a rigorous specification for them but I think I understand the intuition and folklore. SUMPRODUCT can be used in many situations where an array formula might seem appropriate.

    Re: Intermediate excel formulas

This is one of the reasons I've asked as I've just "graduated" to using array formulas, I'd never heard of them a month ago. I've been using SUMPRODUCT with NOT(ISNUMBER(SEARCH))) to exclude multiple criteria from a field based on variations in names of samples. I would have had to make 100s of tables to achieve this if it wasn't for this website!
