HELP! Need to find repeated names and total the findings.

I need help! Forgive me if this is not posted in the correct spot. I'm not sure if this will make sense....but I'll try.

I have a file with several sheets. On each sheet there is a list of student names. I need to check each list and see how many list the students are on, and show that value.

It may make more sense if I explain what it is. This is a list of students each teacher provided. I need to compile a list of the students that are on one or more list.

Is there an easy way I can do this?

To attach an Excel file to your post,

• click Go Advanced,
• scroll down until you see Manage Attachments,
• click that and select Browse,
• select your file and click Open,
• click Upload and you will see your attachment below Upload Files from a website
• click Close this window,
• click Submit reply

After that you should see attachment in your post

2. Of course you can, install free add-ins for Excel 2013: PowerQuery and PowerPivot (very useful things )

hard to describe if you don't have PQ installed
in simple words I append all tables into one and load to the sheet

btw. if you don't have PQ - still you can use result

I have Office 2016 now (need to update my profile), so seems I actually have Power Query installed already and just installed Power Pivot. So now I just need to learn how to use it.

Any pointers to the best introduction to that - I need it to compare different columns in different tables?

1. 2016 - you've PowerQuery and PowerPivot built-in

2. compare different columns in different tables - totally different thing than youor basic problem from post #1.

3. Create new thread with description with "what & where" and, of course, with excel example file.

oh this is not my thread - sorry for the party crashing... I just got intrigued by this thread because maybe some of the stuff I normally go lengths to do can be solved faster and better with these power tools. And its mostly comparing/combining lists I fiddle with. Ill make a new post with examples at a later point.
