Help! Looking to make a List based on multiple criteria

Here's my dilemma. I have one tab labeled Projects with 4 columns (I added the General Date column for formula purposes). The 2nd Tab labeled "2017 PSD Dept Projects" is the sheet that needs to formulate the listing of the Dept PSD projects by Month. In column A under rows 4 and down is where I need to insert a formula that will return a listing of all the projects on the first tab with a Req Date in September 2017. Column B are the projects for the PSD Dept for October 2017. Column C is for the PSD Dept projects for November 2017, etc.

So basically the criteria for the Sept 2017 projects column is that the project must be listed under the "PSD" dept (column D on the Projects Tab) and the Req date must be between 9/1-9/30/2017.

I've tried to do a Index/Match formula, but can't seem to input it correctly.

I've uploaded my worksheet since I couldn't figure out how to past it in here.... my 1st time posting in this forum

    Please help.

welcome to the forum, Celeste. in 2017 PSD Dept Projects worksheet, try to standardize row 3's date to the 1st of the month. then you can use this array formula in cell A4:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

...confirmed by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. You will know the array is active when you see curly braces { } appear around your formula. If you do not CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will get an error or a clearly incorrect answer.

if you can't change the date, it has to be slightly longer:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Post Re: Help! Looking to make a List based on multiple criteria

Benishiryo, The first formula worked with flying colors!

I am having an additional issue of highlighting the cells from the just generated results based on another column's TEXT criteria from the Projects' worksheet. Is there as easy way to add this onto the first formula or use a Conditional Formatting Rule?

Thank you for all your help!!

Re: Help! Looking to make a List based on multiple criteria

Not knowing what TEXT criteria from the Projects worksheet you were looking for I had to make up a scenario.
I added a column E to the Projects worksheet titled 'Completed' and populated with either 'Yes' or 'No'.
I then used the following formula as a conditional formatting rule to highlight those projects with completions of 'No':
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Wow! I see on the worksheet that you were able to highlight them, but I don't see the formula that you referenced above. What am I missing?

What you did will work perfectly if I can merge your formula in with the previous one.

To find the formula used in post #4:
    1) Open the file and select the enable edit button,
    2) Select any cell in the range A4:D7,
    3) Select conditional formatting,
    4) Select manage rules,
    5) hover the cursor over the formula in the 'Rule' field or select 'Edit Rule'.
