    formulae help

    I have the following formulae

    =IF(OR([@State]="Closed",[@State]="Resolved"), IF(AND([Close Code]="Duplicate Request",LEFT([Short Description],3)<>"ESB",OR([Close Code]="Mistake/raised in error")),"NC","C"))

Basically if state is closed or resolved then

    If Close Code

=Duplicate Request AND Short desc <> ESB

    OR

    Close Code ="Mistake.."

Then enter NC (in either event)

On all other occasions enter C

However, it just seems to enter C on every occasion and i've spent several hours rewriting and trying to fathom out why!!

    Re: formulae help

    Hi.

    1. Amend your profile to show your general location in the world.

    2. Amend your profile to show what version of Excel you are using.

Both can be important in providing a solution that fit your Excel version and local settings.

    3..

Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? Please don't attach a picture of one (no-one will want to re-type all your stuff before starting).

    1. Make sure that your sample data are truly REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells. They cause lots of problems!

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

    Re: formulae help

I think you need to alter the AND OR formula so "Mistake/raised in error" is not part of the AND

    =IF(OR([@State]="Closed",[@State]="Resolved"), IF(OR(([Close Code]="Mistake/raised in error"),AND([Close Code]="Duplicate Request",LEFT([Short Description],3)<>"ESB")),"NC","C"),"")

You may also find the Evaluate formula dialog helpful in understanding how your formula is being processed. The dialog will show you each component of the formula having it's reference displayed and resolved.
    Cheers
