Hello,

You know how to attach word file, so attach excel file , not a picture in word doc.
Also, please explain the nature of the problem within the thread itself so that members do not have to open attachments.

I have a range of cells whereby I wish to select the only positive value (all other cells within this range will always equal zero) to automatically put forward for use into an equation. Can I do this with the IF function? This is difficult to explain as I have very little Excel knowledge.
Please find excel spreadsheet attached; this will demonstrate more clearly what I'm looking to do. Refer to Sheet 2 where you will find 'XLT' and the range of cells aforementioned.

could you tell me when this formula will be negative?
=(2.8/86.8)*SQRT((Sheet1!K21*Sheet1!K20)/(1.5*Sheet1!K22^2))
btw. dimensions cannot be negative. In drastic case it can be 0
and where is the result formula which uses the indicated range ?

Hi,
To return the only non-zero value from the range D43:H51, you might use MAX(D43:H51)

Thanks for the replies.
I've only just typed out that equation / result formula as I didn't know how to incorporate the indicated range. However, after using @xlnitwit's input it has worked.
That formula cannot give a negative answer (i.e. the formula gives a shear / bending resistance which in this case cannot be negative). Dimensions cannot be negative? Thanks for the heads up. Fortunately I don't think I will have any of those.
for the future: The number 0 is the smallest non-negative integer so better to use in description: positive non-zero values![]()
