Checking column for values and returning a running total.

    Hello all,

This is my first post on this forum! I just got into Excel again and I'm glad there's a community here to help out. I encountered a problem while sifting through some work earlier and have attached an example of it.

I have a column of dates and points on Table 1. I need to report the percentage of points so far accrued on or before the date listed in Table 2.

I tried using an IF statement to go through the list of dates in Table 1 and check if they are lesser than or equal to the date listed in Table 2. If the dates are equal or lower, the statement should pull the corresponding value from the Points column.

Using the Evaluate Formula command in Excel, the formula works through the true/false check but falls flat after that.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Welcome to the forum.

Put this in F5 and drag down:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

It checks for all dates in B5:B18 which are less than or equal to the date in E5 and sums all the points in C5:C18.

In G5, I suggest you use an absolute reference for the total to get your percentage, so you can just drag the G5 formula down too:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Hope that does what you want.

If your problem is solved, please go to 'Thread Tools' above your first post and 'Mark this Thread as Solved'.
If you use commas as your decimal separator (1,23 instead of 1.23) then please replace commas with semi-colons in your formulae.
You don't need to give me rep if I helped, but a thank-you is nice.
