    circular reference in vlookup formula

    A few weeks ago two members here helped me solve a vlookup/match formula. The problem involves a set of data with missing dates. I wish to impute an average number for the missing dates, and the formulas seem to work (see attached workbook).

    However just today I noticed a circular reference warning for column N, which is the "output" column. The numbers (in column N) seem to be correct. But I can't detect the circular reference. Any advice? I appreciate your help!

    EDIT: Indeed there were no circular references. The issue apparently had to do with another open workbook with a circular reference. Thanks for taking a look at it!

    There are no circular references in the file you attached.

    I've attached a screenshot, which shows the circ reference notice in lower left. Is it possible that my Excel is corrupted... or that the error is referring to another open excel file? Thanks!

    I may have answered my own question. I closed out two other workbooks and the circular reference remained. Then I shut down Excel and restarted, and the reference disappeared. I also ran an error check and found no issues. Maybe Excel was overwhelmed by my other workbooks.

    But thank you very much for taking the time to look at this. Have you seen this kind of bug before in Excel? (or is it a bug at all?)

    I've never seen it before but could very well be a bug. Sometimes people think they find a bug and it turns out it's that way on purpose, but a false circular reference warning looks like a bug to me. Your warning is for N4. I opened your file again and confirmed that there is no formula that refers to N4. So my best guess is bug. If software has one line of code, chances are there's a bug in it.

    OK thanks. I'm also sure I'm pushing my RAM/CPU capacity to the limit with some of the spreadsheets I'm working on, so that may also have something to do with it.
