Drop Down List Hyperlink

if the data validation the URL

eg like this example

or does it form part of the URL...ie it needs to be combined

is the URL of all the sites on your data validation in the same format?
example.... www.blahblahblah.com.au/ & whatever is in DV ?

Could you attach Excel file with example as above?
or
I'll give you working example and you change texts accordingly to your needs
but first I'd like to see your example

I'm trying to get the drop down menu with all the sections linked to there specific legislation. at the moment when you click on it it keeps referring to the first one no matter what one is selected .
any assistance you fellas can provide would me marvelous.

- Worksheet DATABASE
- Under title "Legal Requirements"
- I want the information in B3 (the information in the drop down menu)
- To be all hyperlinked to the corresponding links on my worksheet "Legal requirements" title "WORKER ACT LINK" haven't finished adding them in yet need to make sure what I want is possible in Excel.


PROBLEM FACING

When I'm in worksheet "DATABASE" and I go to the drop down menu for LEGAL REQUIREMENTS - workers for example, I select e.g. S60 - Eligibility to be elected. and it will direct you to the government website as intended perfect!


But when you go to the next one "S62 - eligibility to vote" for example it takes you to S60 link still. I want ot to take me to the correct bit of legislation. Is this possible in excel?

- do you really want all links in one DropDownList? What if there will be 2 or 5 hundred links? You will be scrolling through? - I have 12 folders with 12 different spreadsheets in them all associated with different legal requirements I've broken it up that way. The one I sent you won't get much larger then it currently is. I will fill out the other collums like "policy etc" later on I just need to work out how to do the legal requirements first

- you want to see: ID (S60...) and Description of link, and of course it should be clckable? When I have it in the drop down menu I want it laid out how it currently is if possible. Just wanting the links to function as per photos attached below they are currently not

- and on the end of every link i see sec60, sec64 etc... it will be always 5 characters on the end ? or more? For this particular collum legal requirements no it won't highest it goes up to in regulations is like 3 digits i.e. 999 MAX

See how the URL link associated with the drop downs are the exact same it isn't ajusting the URL link for the newly selected S from the drop down list.prob1.pngprob2.png

DV cannot store the "Dynamic" hyperlink itself
so you cannot have it the way you have it setup without using VBA
or using another column to represent a hyperlink for you
IE insert column C to contain hyperlink based on whatever is selected in Column B

Ok, we are talking about two different things, I think
I'll give you example (not with hypelinks) but with the way how it can be adopted.
On the end there will be ID and clickable Description

Ok, I give up, humdingaling did it (my version was with Searcher but it doesn't matter )

had a quick squizz at the URL of the website
it seems the URL changes based on division as well as part so the idea of constructing the URL like my previous examples becomes a lot more complicated

ie it may work for sec64-sec68 (http://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/#/.../subdiv4/sec64)
but if you try sec20 (http://www.legislation.nsw.gov.au/#/...rt2/div3/sec20) or something

ugh it truncates the URL.....
sec20 = Part2/div3/Sec 20
Sec64 = Part5/Div3/Subdiv4/sec64

the part and division and subdivision of the URL changes
either you need to find a way of incorporating these into the construction of the URL or better yet just have a table with the URL to

anyway i have attached the basic principle of the Dynamic URL within the DV with VBA

are you veering to the VBA solution or the non VBA solution?

i would suggest non vba if you dont really work with it at least you wouldn't need to learn a new langauge to maintain it

in that case its a no brainer
stick to the non-vba solution

see version 2 using Legal Requirements spreadsheet to find where the URL should go

Yes, its taking it from Legal requirements spreadsheet
so if you pick something that doesnt have a link you will see it shows "link needs to be updated"
now if the link is wrong on that page...it wont say that ...it will just say "Link"

same kind of formula...you need to change it slightly to make where the vlookup does the lookup
