    Complicating RANKING function

I am hopeful someone can help me automate a somewhat complicated ranking/sorting function. I has to do with golfing gross and net score results. I am hoping to find a way to rank 16 players into the best 4 finishers in the gross and net categories. The issue is, they cannot be the same player, and I need to give the player their higher finish the respective category. Doing it manually can be extremely time-consuming due to the domino effect. I have attached my sample results sheet. Is there a formula whereby I can rank and sort each player so that the top 4 finishers (1st through 4th) in each category are different players representing their higher finish? Thanks...

I hope I have explained this well enough. I have had so much help in this forum. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi thedunna,

See if this gives you a hint/method. The trick is*to first rank by Gross then look at my formula that*goes down the list and cant use people already picked.

Keep asking if this*doesn't work for you.
Golf Gross Net Rank cant win both.xlsx

    What do those statement mean?

What's the expected result for the example shown?

EDIT: Never mind if Marvin has you sorted.

    Re: Complicating RANKING function

Thanks for the response Marvin. This just seems to rank the players by their gross scores. I am able to do that. The trick I am hoping to find is the ability to rank players by gross, and then rank same players by net. I then hope to find the 4 lowest scores in each category that are not the same person AND giving the person credit for their highest finish, whether it be gross or net. For example, McDonald seems to have a lower net score than Foster who has the same gross score. McDonald should finish higher in Net. Rather than winning 4th place gross, he might win 2nd place net. I don't know, it's probably not doable. Thanks for taking a look.
